About me

I believe that the core of therapeutic change comes from a foundational relationship of trust and vulnerability between client and therapist.  My hope is that through sharing a bit about myself, prospective clients can get a small sense of the experiences I bring to the therapeutic relationship.
Though I have happily called New York City home for many years now (including the shelter-in-place years), I grew up in rural Upstate New York surrounded by farms and nature.   This instilled a deep appreciation in me for the benefits of the natural world and what I now understand to be the practice of mindfulness.  After receiving my Ph.D. in Knoxville, Tennessee, I moved to New York City and went through what so many new and old New Yorkers go through when adjusting to life in such a busy and, at-times intimidating city.   I now use the practice of mindfulness to help myself and those I work with in navigating the business of our every day (especially in a city like ours).
I offer a unique perspective in my therapy that embraces the wide variety of experiences, cultures, and people I have encountered along the way.  I have worked in hospitals, nonprofit organizations, and community mental health clinics from New York City to rural Appalachia. Prior to starting JustWell Psychology, I worked at a private, Manhattan-based therapy group, as well as the Manhattan VA.
Regardless of the setting, I strive to provide culturally informed therapy to individuals of all sociocultural identities and believe in the importance of understanding how systems outside of the individual can influence one’s understanding of themselves.
